Joint Center for Sustainable Communities is a collaboration of the National Association of Counties and the U.S. conference of Mayors. It was established in reponse to the need for a city-county organziation to help implement the recommendaiotns of the President's Council on Sustainable Development, recommendations that call for the creation of intergovernmetnal partnerships to pursue economic prosperity, environmental protection, and social equity in an integrated way. The overall goal of the Joint Center is to provide lcoal elected officials with assistance in useing the policies and tools for creating sustianable communities. NOAA works closely with the Joint Center on issues confronting the nation's coastal communities.
