A major effort of this Office has been championing the work within NOAA and the Department of Commerce to create a consistant and practical framework for encouraging environmentally sustainable aquculture, to reduce pressure on wild stocks and provide commercially viable alternative economic activities to traditionally fisheries based communities, and to create new economic opportunities in economically disadvantaged urban neighborhoods.
